The Institute for Frisian Studies and Minority Research of the Europa-Universität Flensburg, in conjunction with Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies, seeks to appoint a
Post-Doctoral Researcher (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter)
from September 1st 2025 for the period of two years, or as soon as possible thereafter, as a 75% FTE (the starting date is negotiable).
The appointment is in connection with a research project on “The neuro-cognitive and behavioral interplay between linguistic awareness, metacognitive efficiency, and decision-making strategies: evidence from bilingual and linguistic minority communities”, funded by the Volkswagen foundation.
The project will contribute to an explanation of why people in different communities make different decisions even if they have the same information. The specific work package your contribution will focus on will be aimed specifically at delineating neural mechanisms and neural structures involved in metacognitive processing, identifying the neural basis of tolerance and openness to new ideas, and at exploring how metacognition affects these underlying neural bases.
Your employer will be the Europa-Universität Flensburg but you will spend significant periods of time at the University of Coimbra (Portugal), where you will work with the MRI scanner based at their Institute for Biomedical Imaging.
Your tasks:
- Preparing MRI sequences and experimental protocols, programming experimental protocols (in Presentation, Neurobehavioral Systems);
- Preparing scripts for data pre-processing, data analysis (any software, including commercial tools like Brain Voyager; if needed, remote access to mainframes can be arranged);
- Support the publications of the project´s findings
Your profile:
- A Master´s degree and doctorate in a relevant discipline (e. g. Cognitive Sciences, Physics, Neuroscience, Neurology, Computing Science but other educational backgrounds may also be considered);
- Experience in preparing neuroimaging experiments using MR modality (throughout all stages, from conceptual design to implementation in any experiment presentation and controlling tool)
- Experience in at least one of the following and willingness to acquire skills in one of the other areas of MRI analysis: (f)MRI data (BOLD signal analysis); DTI, or morphometry methods. Preference will be given to people who have experience with structural connectivity analysis and/or morphometry.
- Proven academic writing skills in English
- Team work and ability to meet deadlines.
